Acoustiflex® PL Acoustic Pipe Lagging
A quiet environment is mandated by the Building Code of Australia for residential apartments, hotels, motels, aged care buildings, townhouses and other attached buildings.
The direction towards high-density living has required more noise abatement for a better quality living/environment.
Acoustiflex® PL5/15 pipe lagging comprises of a Calcium Carbonate loaded noise barrier, bonded with a high density Polyurethane ‘Hydrolysis Resistant’ acoustic foam. This bonded double layer of heavyweight, but flexible acoustic insulation is housed within a heavy duty reinforced aluminium foil casing.
Acoustiflex® PL5/15 has been rigorously tested by NATA and CSIRO laboratories - complies with the requirements of the Building Code of Australia 2011 (Ref. F5.6)* 40 + Ctr.
The product should be correctly installed (by professional installer) in conjunction with a minimum 10mm plasterboard ceiling.
The flammability rating of Acoustiflex® PL5/15, according to AS 1530.3, is rated zero in all four indexes of ignitability, spread of flame, heat evolved and smoke developed. It also complies with ASTM E 84.

Acoustic Performance PL5/15
To achieve Rw 40+CTR - Lag pipes with Acoustiflex® PL5/15 together with a 10mm thick plasterboard ceiling and 50mm 6-8kg/m3 insulation.* To achieve Rw 45 - Lag pipes with Acoustiflex® PL5/15 together with a 10mm thick plasterboard ceiling.
Calculating the width
W = ∏ x [OD + (2xT)] +50 mm overlap
W = width of Acoustiflex® PL5/15 to go around the pipe
OD = Outside pipe Diameter T = Acoustiflex® PL5/15 thickness (15mm)
∏ = 3.14 Installation Procedure
Easily cut Acoustiflex® PL with a knife or scissors to avoid wastage.
Wrap Acoustiflex® PL around the pipe overlapping all joins by 50mm (vertical & horizontal) to avoid potential flanking noise.
Wrap 3 circumferential wraps of high-quality 48-72mm wide reinforced aluminium tape at approx. every 350mm (ie. 3 wraps /1m of pipe length) and tape along seams.
* Ensure a minimum separation of 50mm between the pipe and the plasterboard ceiling.
